it's a scam

We have received hundreds of them where I work. just delete it.
i keep getting that email too, goes straight to my spam box!
IR put out a general warning circular a while back its a scam.....just delete it
HMR would never do it like this, always a letter, followed by another letter saying they made a mistake.

Also it would be the exact amount not a vague sum.

As Chuck says bin it.
hm revenue would contact you via post, not e-mail. they would also either send you a cheque to deposit, or if you get tax creadits or other monies from the government, they would credit it to your account. definately a scam - delete, delete, delete! x
It's real, all they need is your bank account number, sort code and credit card details. Then they will deposit the monies into your account. It is all the one p's and two p's that people forget about! Sincerely yours - George Agdgdgwngo (from de Governments)
I've also had one today and also one from Paypal telling me they are going to supsend an account I don't have !!
Scams - delete all of them

Thanks guys for your replys,I will do as you say and bin it.Many thanks.
You have to ask yourself, did the HM revenue ever HAVE your email address?

If not then how could they send you an email saying you have a refund.

Treat ALL emails like this as VERY VERY suspicious.
And I bet it doesn't even have your name/NI/tax reference number on- it'll just say 'Dear Taxpayer'
disappointing though ;o)
