Britain is one of the most enlightened countries on earth. It has in the past led the way in scientific and philosophical thought. It was the birthplace of modern engineering and the industrial revolution as well as the worlds of art and literature.
The reason is because we're prepared to ask questions and think outside the box.
Today, right-wing mongs see that as anti-British. If you question anything (government policy, the philosophy of war, the structure of society, the way our financial markets work), you're spurned as some kind of witch. Basically, if you deviate from the angry mob, you must be intent on the destruction of the country. Must be. Stands to reason.
These people are so desperate to cling to the status quo and are so mistrustful of anything different or progressive or new, they frame individual thought as unpatriotic - question the morality of British tactics and you're 'backing the enemy to the hilt'. It's absolutely backward. It's like evolution has stopped and is reversing.
The reason is because we're prepared to ask questions and think outside the box.

I am appalled by this what you right wingers are saying is that anyone who questions the war etc is a lefty.
However you all criticise this country continualy, you are hypocrits, the left were in power for the last 13 years and took this country into the war so on the one hand you are prepared to criticise this government, criticism that is very rarely based on oany sort of fact and often using nothing but anecdotal evidence. However not to support the war is lefty?
You people are everything that is wrong with this country, you tear the fabric with a constant tirade of negative rhetoric. You are the antithesis of good old fashioned Conservatism, you either confuse or perpertrate a myth that all public opinion is politicaly based. It is called freedom of speech and you would seek to stifle it.

Your confusing me with someone else. The far Right and the far Left are two sides of the same coin. Neither side will allow freedom of thought or anyone else one of the central tenants of Conservatism is freedom of speech, debate and argument. Nobody should vote for someone who will not allow that and no creedence should be given to those who advocate those with a different opinion.
As far as I can see here it is only those with right wing views here want to stifle freedom of speech and as I said only because they are using anecdotal evidence and have no facts.

People with views like aog and youngmafbog are oblivious to a simple fact:
At any point in this country's glorious history, it was people with progressive ideas (regardless of political labels) who made the difference and when one studies their biographies you realise that they would have treated with derision the narrow minded, ill informed, unintelligent, negative generalisations and childlike assumptions that people like the above posters make on a regular basis.
If his user name is a guide, at least anotheroldgit isn't likely to waste our time or good air for much longer. On the same basis, youngmafbog would be a worry, but hopefully if he is a child or (based on the low intellectual standard of his posts) educationally sub-normal, he's already in some sort of Special School and won't be released into the community anytime soon, especially if the new government take away the funding.
