Whilst looking at PC World for another Base Unit I see `RAM 3072 MB DDR2` and would like to know the meaning of 3072, can you decipher for me please in easy terms?

Probably indicating that the machine has 3072MB of RAM fitted or 3GB if you like.

It's not a probable, it's a definite. 1 gigabyte is 1024 megabytes (MB) and three times that is 3072MB, so therefore you have 3 gigs of RAM.

Which is pretty much the maximum useable with a 32 bit OS
