Here is a link to Queries set by Dumpynose

My copy of the grid was very faint and it was necessary to number some of the clues
and re-emphasise the bars.

An enjoyable puzzle which is very topical.

Thanks for the link Kayakamina. I populated the grid quite rapidly, thanks to the early appearance of the quotation. Sorry dr b, your hint left me wondering if I'd gone wrong somewhere, but I thought the hint from Novalis was ingenious. Am also sure that AndrewG-S would be grateful that you both avoided the temptation to use an agnominatio or even ein wortspiel.
No doc that's just what happens when I start flailing away without really reading the whole preamble.

Thanks novalis.

I got the connection between 30d &7d and meant to return to the puzzle after going out. When I returned I couldn't 'suggest an answer to one of the queries' until I saw your very helpfull hint!

Bravo & thanks again.
Thanks, Novalis. It was really niggling that I couldn't solve that last letter and your hint did the trick. But I think it is fairly obscure!
Well, I settled down late afternoon with the puzzle and reached that point where I was stuck on the one remaining letter, so had a quick read-through of the comments and started pondering on Novalis' hint which I didn't immediately understand. At which point the door bell rang. I had completely forgotten a dinner invitation.
Later tonight, after a good meal there I was rocking in one of those chairs that hang suspended from the ceiling, a glass of good Portuguese red in my hand, and my hostess gently strumming a guitar. when suddenly light dawned. Just got in, went straight to the big red book and all was revealed - so thanks Novalis, I got there in the end.
I too have been ruminating on the novalis hint but am still in the dark. Like others, I completed the grid relatively quickly but still have the one letter left. A further gentle prod in the right direction would be appreciated.

The Nationality of 30d and an archaic meaning (3letters) of 16d (four letters) will combine to make part of the quotation.
Think keyword in the second question asked in the perimeter
Kayakamina - I love your kaya! Are you also in Africa? Stuck with 10a - trash? and can't crack the missing letter at 16.
