How long would you have been stranded without the AA though?
My own experience with the AA has been all good so I really can't identify with you on this one. Still with any service there will always be occasions where they fall short.

Chuck, they didn't get us home, fortunately when the engine had cooled down the car started.

As a mere woman,i think it was the starter motor.
perhaps you had the misfortune to call them on the day they were on strike?
anyway do you have roadside and relay? If you dont have relay, you shouldn't expect them to get you home
That is not a starter motor problem,I once had the same problem with a Ford Granada it was o.k. when it had cooled down just for 10 minutes, nobody could tell me what it was unless I was hooked up to fault finder, one day in the middle of a town it cut out and wouldnt restart, green flag came to tow me home and while we were going home he asked what the trouble was,I told him and he said it sounds like the ignition booster was faulty, got a new one fitted and no more trouble.
Ive only just joined 9 about 2 weeks ago ) and last friday i had to call the AA out , turns out it was the " coil " AA man was great , he put a new part in costing £34 and got my car going again : )
i only waited 35 mins for AA man , AA texd me on my mobile phone and told me he was on his way as well
i believe they do also have a system were they favour lone females, or females with young kids, so maybe you were just unlucky ..?

the engine overheating wont be caused by the starter motor...
Well, on the couple of occasions I've needed them, they have been helpful and turned up within the estimated time given.

The last time I called them was on a Friday evening about 7:30pm and the wait was upto 3 hours, and took about 2 hours for them to arrive.

You can't really fault the AA mechanic from what you've described about your breakdown as your car started again after 10 minutes and apart from taking your car back home, there's not much more he could of done. (How far away from home was you???)

But you won't find many people who ring the AA ect and don't get the necessary help.

Last thing - I am not saying there 100% spot on, but at the same time, 9 times out of 10 nobody can fault them/complain

I get free breakdown cover from Greenflag free as part of my account that I've got with my bank

not used them yet, but I haven't heard anything but positive feedback about them?

Hello there, I work for the AA and I happen to have read this thread. The AA welcomes all feedback, both good and bad, and I would like to invite you to call us on 0845 607 6727 if you would like to discuss this further. Thanks.

Thank you for your suggestion.
I will ring up greenflag today and enquire about the level of cover & exactly what I'm covered and not covered for !!
