what was the scariest episode of dr who, and why?

I haven't seen the oldies but you might think one of those was really scary, perhaps it was, or you may have been a small child at the time, frightened by the slightest thing.

i think the ones with the clockwork people and don't blink were scary, But with don't blink (david tennant with the stone angels) they could have got round them. There as a fatal flaw in the plot. If you have to always be watching them, and you need to blink, can't you blink one eye at a time? that way you are always looking at them . . . . sorry if its a bit pernikerty, but i would have done that.

I watched the old ones, but son't remember any particular episodes, so like you my scariest one is a fairly recent one.

It's the one set in wartime with the little boy who was following the other children and kept saying "are you my mummy?", it really creeped me out.

ar, that one set in the war was scary aswell.

I know an episode is scary, when i have to take my dog upstairs with me incase there is a child with a gas mask on/ a stone angel/ a clock work person under my bed.

Infact when i watched the clockwork people one, i was in my parents room, as they had recorded it on their telly, and i had my hand over the side of their bed, and my dog came up to me and touched my hand (jsut as the dr was looking under the bed). I can't remember screaming that much.
I am a veteran watcher - from Episode One onwards, and the scariest has to be the very first appearance of The Daleks. Just as Terry Nation intended, it was their 'gliding' motion and disembodied voices that made them so sinister. What a creation!
The scariest episode (well, serial) I ever saw was "The Tomb of the Cybermen" with Patrick Troughton as the second doctor.

This absolutely terrified me as a child (it was a gift purchased for me on VHS... blimey).

The images of the Cybermen punching their way out of their frozen coffin-things scared the bejebus out of me.

The voices of the Cybermen were a lot scarier compared to the new re-imagined ones.

Scary!

You can date people by whom 'their' Doctor is / was - just like Blue Peter - so that makes me William Hartnell and Chris Trace / Valerie Singleton.

Just on a pertinent note - Wendy Padbury who played one of the first 'assistants' became the default for my arcetypal fanciable woman - dark eyes, fair skin, dark hair, small, small features, turn-up nose, pretty voice, and that's the kind of wman i have fancied from that day to this!
Agree about the age of a Doctor Who fan as to their favourite Doctor Andy, although I saw some of the Troughton era, Jon Pertwee is my Doctor. There is a scene in The Curse of Peladon (January/February 1972), when an Ice Warrior is about to discover the Doctor's assistant Jo Grant hiding behind a curtain, that had me terrified. I had to check the wardrobe and under the bed that night for any hidden Ice Warriors!
The family. It was the one in which David Tennant becomes John Smith (a headmaster)
I don't really remember the older ones, though i watched them (Tom Baker was the doctor in my day).

From the recent ones, The Empty Child ("are you my mummy?") and "blink" i think really stand out as scary,
Question Author
janbee, that wasn't that scary, just a bit creepy with unexpected turns.
The Ice Warriors used to make me hide behind the sofa!
im not an avid viewer but the weeping angels are quite scarey!!!
Question Author
zzxxee that's don't blink, the one i mentioned. Most creatures you can hide from but as soon as you can't see them, they can come and get you.

They're back, on the preview for next weeks show, they're on it again.
