Ive had my dog for about 4 or 5 years, previous to this she was a stray on the streets. She is a brilliant dog, very clever and very loving towards everyone. The only problem is, she doesnt like men unless she knows them well so if she sees a bloke coming towards her in the street she will jump and bark at them. This obviously scares the hell out them and i have to apologise. Although she doesnt mean any harm, how the hell can i stop her from doing it??

try taking her to an obediance class. she has probably been beaten and left by a bloke, and its only fear and improve her confidence and it might work, but then again she may be to old to get it out of her system, but phone someone like the blue cross or your local vet and they may give more advice or a number for a good class.
My dog used to be like this.He is a rescue dog and used to be terrified of strange men especially if they were wearing those workboots.Pretty obvious that he had been kicked about by someone .He is fine now .It just takes a bit of training as victoria says and here is a very good article that may help you and give you some ideas.

my dog used to be like that but if he shows signs of aggression now, i use a clicker, and when he looks at me, i click and treat, it only took 1 week for him to learn than good behaviour = good treats, now i dont need the treats, he knows that its not good to chew on someones leg.
Also, if you act pleased to see whoever he barks at, it helps him to not be stressed, they pick up our anxieties very quickly, so the minute you feel tense, they will and they react by barking and attacking, so chill, buy some treats and a clicker and in a very short time you wont be scaring too many ppl! obedience classes are ok but in my opinion, a 1 to 1 trainer is better...too many distractions at multi dog classes

Aah, thank you all. I think my dog wouldnt take a blind bit of notice of the trainer at a mixed dog class, only at the other dogs! Ive heard that the clicker method is very good, so i will give that a go instead! Thanks again.
