New Zealand flax - frost damaged

Our new zealand flax which was planted in the flower bed (about 8ft tall) suffered severly during the winter weather. I think it is beyond saving but before I chop it down is there anything that can be done to save it?

These are known to be a bit tender, especially the pink type.
Try chopping all off to just above the base .. and waiting .. and waiting ...
