Hi millie,
I'd love to be part of that! This looks a good site x http://www.allotment.org.uk/
Not sure what veg you should grow, but I would stock up on the Iburofen for afterwards (:0 (

My garden backs onto allotments - popular veg seem to be potatoes, cabbage and carrots.

Thanks sach looks like a good site will keep all informed ie backache ibuprofen usage etc looking forward to some veg from my own plot
runner beans - so you can pick them at their tenderist/sweetest about 4inches long.....no longer, 'cause they get stringy
Congratulations milliezoe.
Has the allotment been used recently? If not you may need to clear the weeds.
get down there and meet other holders they are a mine of info.Find out if there is an allotment shop for cheaper gardening supplies. Is there an allotment association.
potatoes are a good crop to start off with they help to break up the ground. Can go in anytime around now. Get a book from the library , something simple on the lines of veg growing for beginners.
Don't be too ambitious in your first season, spuds, cabbage , peas , runner beans something like that, a few lettuce .
Organise a drum for water saves a lot of treking about.
Eventually you could have a little shed.
Have had an allotment for over 30 years , can't beat being down there very early am in the summer , with a flask of coffee , my brekkie in a paper bag , contemplating my navel before the world awakes.Total bliss. Sincere good luck and happy growing.
Start saving for a rotovator - if your allotment is a decent size it will be the best thing you buy.
Just a hint - dont try to buy a second hand one now cos the prices will be high - buy at the end of the season.
Congrats millie - enjoy!
Well done millie !! I waited ages to get an allotment and had a lot
of advice from other people , also plants . If it's not been used for ages
you have to remove all the grass , weeds etc. and then dig ,dig ,dig , it's
free exercise !! I love it . Spuds will break up the ground .Runner beans , beetroot ,
and sweetcorn are things you can freeze .I could waffle on for hours ..just enjoy
the outside life and what is on the plate when you eat it ...
