I'm travelling to Paris with my daughter who is on my passport which was issued in 1997. I just want to double check that she doesn't need a separate passport. The passport office told me to ring the french embassy but their automated service just keeps going on about their website which isn't much help either. I just want a straight answer! Thanks.

I travelled with my daughter on mine for ages, it was only until mine expired that she had to get her own.  I am pretty sure the rule still applies.

As BossyBoots says, as far as the UK Government is concerned, a child under 16 can travel on this type of passport until the expiration date at which time the child must have its own passport.

I cannot categorically confirm as to whether the French will accept this as a valid passport, however since they still issue adult passports with children placed on them I would tend to think that they will.

As we live abroad we were told that children now had to have their own passports and could not be on a parents.  Please check.  I'm still talking British here.
All children on parent's passport before 5 Oct 1998 can still travel on parent's passport.  Once they reach 16yrs they have to have their own.  This from Passport office website.  Check Google.
