Yesterday's Times http://technology.tim...eb/article7045882.ece gives a very simple, non-technical summary of what's available
The majority of the 'regulars', here in AB's Technology section, use Firefox. (When Google Chrome first came out there was quite a lot of interest in it, with widespread praise, but Firefox still seems to be the most popular).

Firefox is a great browser when simply used in its basic form but it really shines when it's used with some of the optional 'add-ons'. For example, this AB page loads much faster when Firefox is used with AdBlock Plus (which gets rid of all the adverts). Google Chrome has just made a range of 'plug-ins' available, but there are far more available for Firefox.

Thanks.
I have downloaded 'Opera' and think it's great.
Chris, if you're still around, is it possible to block the animated ads, the ones that run on Flash? When I right-click on them it doesn't offer the option of using Ad-Block Plus (which works on static ads).
