I've just booked the Thistle hotel in Edinburgh, Leith St I believe.   Can anybody tell me is this a pretty central location?  Is it near to Princes Street, and the shops etc?  Thanks in advance......

Not sure which part of Leith Street it's on, but Leith Street joins onto Prince's Street.  Leith Street is in the New Town part of Edinburgh so it's pretty central though it depends if you want to go out in the New Town or Old Town (I prefer Old Town).  Having said that, the centre of Edinburgh is quite small so it's easy enough to walk around, just take good shoes with you! :)
Leith Street runs on from Princes Street up past the Railway Station - so is very central

Congratulations, the Thistle Hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Edinburgh!

the Thistle Hotel is attached to the St James' Shopping Centre.  Leith Street is literally a 2 minute walk to the East End of Princes Street.  This is also where North Bridge begins, which is a 10 minute straight walk to the Royal Mile.

A 5 minute walk down the hill from Leith Street takes you to the Omni Centre (commercial clubs, bars & restaurants plus cinema).  Or, take the number 22 bus from outside of St James Centre down Leith Walk to Ocean Terminal or walk around the Commercial Quay area and admire the Scottish Executive building!

Hope you enjoy your stay
