employer sends you on a course who pays

Hi my brother was sent on a course by his employer he was not asked if he wanted to go. Two weeks after the course finished he recieved a letter saying if he leaves the company with in six months he has to pay the full cost of the course. He was asked to sign this letter and sent it back. As it happens he is giving his notice in today. Can his employer deduct this money from his pay.

Can she get her money back?

Sorry i ment to say he has not signed the letter or sent it back as yet

No, the employer cannot deduct without the signed authorisation back.
If it was the company's intention that the employer needs to be bound by a term of this type, they should have discussed it with him and sought his agreement before he went on the course.
Don't sign the letter, put the resignation letter in, make sure he delivers his side of the agreement whilst working out his notice period, and (if necessary) remind the employer that it would be an unlawful deduction of wages if they try any funny business.

And thanks for the advice you posted last week on the same on going issue. I hope it will all be over by this afternoon, he has gone to hand his notice in this morning.
