Hi

I got a letter the other day saying a man from the national statisics for the goverment is calling at my house next week to interview me and carry out a survey
Id rather not do this as ive never heard about it before,
As anyone else doe this before and do people have to take part in it or is it optional

I have tried to find infomation about if you have to do it but cant seem to find anything.

sounds like a sales tactic to me, just tell them you are not interested and be out
That sounds very suspicious to me too

You can contact the office for national statics here:

If they know nothing about it contact the police or the office of fair trading who are having a "Scamnesty" blitz

The ONS do indeed interview individuals at home; it is a method of data collection which is, of course, totally optional.

By all means it is prudent to double-check with the ONS as to the legitimacy of this interview but I wonder how people think the ONS arrive at their statistics if the very notion of a survey elicits such suspicion.

i had one of these last year or it might of been the year before anyway i rang them and agreed to a phone interview, he tried to get me to agree to someone coming out for a follow up but i refused. (it took about half hour i think) i got a £10 M& S voucher out of it
i wouldn't want anyone coming around my house asking quesitons.
Almost everything is optional and there are very few things that you are obliged to take part in. If you don't want to do it, say no. I wouldn't do it.
