weight gain and monthly cycle...

i have gained alot of weight recently (yes i've been over indulging) and i have noticed as the weight has been piling on my monthly occurance has become more painful and heavy.

can my weight gain have caused this? and also can weight gain cause your periods to become a bit irregular?

just wondered thnx

It depends the extent of the weight gain, but yes, weight can definitely affect your cycle. If you get too light, they may stop altogether, and I know that heavier people do sometimes get heavier periods. If we are talking a couple of stone I really don't think it would make THAT much difference, so maybe get it checked out with your doc.
Have you been under any stress lately which may have caused you to comfort eat and put on weight? If its stress then this can also cause problems in the period department. If its not stress, then it could be something like a thyroid problem which can cause weight gain and mess around with your body chemistry. If in doubt go to the docs, and they can do simple blood tests to rule out any underlying problems. Hope that helps!
