I always go against the direction of hair growth.  I've tried the other way but I didn't seem to get as smooth a finish and it felt an awful lot more awkward.
I go against too.  Shaving your own legs downwards is very difficult!  But I started shaving my underarms downwards a while ago and found they felt a lot less sore than when i did it upwards.
yeah i shave my legs from ankle upwards, but my husband says i do it wrong, it stays too bristly if i do it his way but underarms i shave downwards.  What about waxing (personally i wouldn't dare) or that cream stuff (cant stand smell, too messy and doesnt work properly)
I go against too. Is it just me or does anyone else out there wish they'd never started shaving?

pixi That cream is good but u can only keep it for like 8 mins at the most and if you have been shaving your whole life the hairs are thicker and the cream just doesn't work as good. (This is what I've found anyway)

Inbetween using wax strips, I shave my legs from the ankles up. I have always done so & get a nice close shave!

Hi Chazza & Everyone :o)

I also shave against the grain, I have tried going with the grain but it didn't shave well at all.

I tried waxing a couple of month's ago and I can honestly say I have never known pain like it! and I've given birth twice!!! My husband came rushing up stairs to find out why I was screaming! I suprised myself as I thought I had a pretty high pain threashold!

The things we go thru eh?

I dont like waxing cos i dont like the in between hairy bit!

and the creams dont work for me, they leave stubble and i have to shave after, and they also make my legs bleed!

On 'Queer eye for the straight guy' a few months back the gay 'beauty' advisor told the man to shave his face once downwards, with the grain, thwn back up, against the grain, then down again, with the grain. He had reasoning for it and it was something to do with getting it as short as poss and the final bit was to prevent irritation or something like that.

I can understand that on a mans face but I don't see how it can apply to a womans legs. I go against, I think everyone does.

i like that veet foaming stuff. it works good for me. i hate shaving! nair sucks. it never got all the hair and it itches like crazy! when i do shave(rare) i shave against. i thought if you shave with it wouldn't get the hair rite.

I suppose I'd better make a stand for the "correct" way - I've always gone down the leg, with the hairs, as it recommends in various grooming books.

I switched to an epilator - if you use it a few days after you've shaved, there are only a few hairs through the surface that were immediately below when you shaved. So it doesn't hurt anything like waxing where you're removing hundreds at a time! A quick buzz over every two or three days seems to do the trick, you just get a slight prickling, not really pain. There are always epilators in boot sales, used once! by people who have tried to tackle a full growth, found it as painful as waxing (well it would be!) and vowed never again.

omg i tried an epilator once, i did about 1 inch square and nearly passed out, i cant remember if the hair was a days growth or forest like but never ever again

I go from ankle up though find round the knees particularly awkward. Armpitss I go downwards.

Have you tried the Veet wax strips. They always say smooth down and then pull back against the directional hair growth.

You can get free sample of Veet if you're still a wax virgin!!

Epilator....... OMG it hurt so much had to get my mum to sit on my leg and do it for me then she only got a small square done before I said I was gonna kill her!!! I still cant believe I spent so much money on something that hurt so badly and I have only used once!! lol.

I always shave from the ankle up for a good smooth finish and I always rub a bit of talc on my legs after to stop then tingling and getting sore.

ive found that the best removal thingy is the razorless 3 minute cream. its gt no razor and it dont smell that bad. a little bit goes a long way. cos the hair was fairly long anyway when i used it, my legs stayed smooth 4 over a week. its not attall messy and is only about 4.50 in boots.(on special)! only prob is i cant find the refil mouse.!!!

i just got fed up of shaving!!!! bt when i do i got against the grain, bt it neva stays smooth!!grrrrr!!!

hi i prefer hairy girls anyway!!!!
I have heard that you should shave "against the grain", but then finish by running over then with the razor "with the grain" as this sort of smooths over the area and doesn't leave it all open - I've found this works under the arms - bit of a pain on legs though!
Try the razor in any direction u like and after two or three days, use the epilator. hair is too short, won't cause any pain.
