... "English Speaking Driver".

Apparently it's been banned as racist.
How ridiculous.
What do you all think?

This is crazy salla ! Where was this, was it somewhere like Bradford or Birmingham ?

Southampton?

How can it be racist. They're not putting notices saying "English Driver" - just "English speaking".... I would consider that reasonable.
Don't care whether our local drivers speak English, just wish they could drive.

But if they don't speak English - how do they know where you want to be driven to?!
Nothing much surprises me these days salla. They will be having Rickshaws on the streets of Southampton next !

Not much point if the passenger/s can't speak English!

well the radio didn't mention the england flag or the BNP being behind the whole idea. I suppose that does put a bit of a different slant (no offence to the chinese) on it...
Just as a mtter of interest has anybody had a taxi driver in the UK who couldn't speak English?

Not just an accent - that'd cover glasweigans and brummies too

Just ask as I can't remember the last time I took a taxi
'The notice just happens to have a red and white flag in the background'; Hardly unusual, bearing in mind what it was advertising. Maybe a Patagonian flag would've been more apt?
Jake - most of the taxi drivers we've ever encountered late at night, or home from airports, have been Asian, but most of them speak enough English to tell us how much the fare is. That's all we needed to know.
