Try using the disk cleanup facility first.
1. Click the Start button (bottom left of your screen)
2. In the Start Search box (just below All Programs) type "disk cleanup".
3. Follow the onscreen instructions.
The computer will figure out what you could get rid of, which might be safer than just deleting and hoping for the best.
The above won't help to stop what is loading with the PC

This website tells you how to use MSCONFIG

http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/index.html

and this website tells you what is safe to delete

http://www.pacs-porta...k/startup_content.php

There are many programs that can be safely be stopped from starting up as a general rule allow your Anti virus , firewall and other necessary utilities like your wireless adaptor

Hope this helps
