I need to replace my existing telephone cabling but am worried about how to connect my new cable to the existing wires as they enter the house. At the moment they are connected using an encapsulated connector that will not come apart. Can I use an ordinary domestic wiring electrical connecting strip instead?
Thanks

This is not something you are supposed to do, of course. BT require to come around and fit a new Master Socket, which you then extend using proprietary telephone extension cabling.
However this site tells you the wiring.

The maximum voltage on a phone line is around 50V AC - so a normal convential choc-block would appear adequate electrically for the purpose.
and be aware that if you do replace this yourself, in the unlikely event that your line then develops a fault BT will hammer you with charges, and could actually withdraw your service.
