Is anyone else sick of all the reality and talent shows on the box. There are also far too many "stars" going off on jaunts around the world. Whatever happened to good quality drama and comedy.

reality tv sells newspapers and advertising space. until it fails to do so, you'll have to live with it.
the simple answer is, 'reality TV' - a wonderful oxymoron if ever there was one, contains the twin pots at the end of the TV makers' rainbow - they are popular and cheap to make. Add to that, they export well, and you have money-making optiont which will always take precience over 'quality' TV. Thank hevens we still have the BBC who is not only not dependent on revenue for its output, put has a built-in remit to make decent television.
that's why i am always watching reruns of big valley and the like on the other channels, can't be doing with tghe fornatted nind numbing reality stuff paying ex celebs and ex stars to sit in a room and sell themselves. prefer the complete unreality of the proper TV that I grew up with

Sounds like you are about the same age as me dot. I don't go out much in the evening. TV as bad as it is is how I discovered AB.
lol cas, I;ve spent the afternoon watching Freewheelers and the Big valley, pure nostalgia but Nick barclay does it for me lol
Yes, they do have a remit - it's in the terms of the Licence Agreement.

That said, they do have to make a proportionof popular output as well, as a business decision - exports bring money - as well as ensuring that everyone who pays the licence gets a fair crack at watching what they like.

No-one can ever please everyone, but i for one think the BBC does a good job. You can always be selective with what ever channel you view.

I agree, it is diabolical. If TV had been as bad as this when I was a child I would have been much better at playing the piano. The only light in the unremitting tunnel of rubbish recently has been, in my opinion, 'Wallander' and to a lesser extent 'Survivors'.
