Hi everyone well I am really stumped. I have two clues - no no of letters etc but the answers are about the human body.

1. 'Cyrano's narrow victory at Ascot' - I was going to put nose, but the next clue is 'A bit further ahead at Ascot.' Could this be nose and the first one head? The answers are cryptic supposedly - and I know nothing about horseracing. Anyone's thoughts would be much appreciated.

I would think the first one is head and the second nose.
The Cyrano reference suggests nose....
Sorry gotit the wrong way round the first is nose and then if you were further ahead of course it would be head.
Cyrano de Bergerac was noted for his nose.

Thanks very much. I now see why the cyrano one has to be nose! I do wonder though if 'head' is still wrong as it features too prominently in the clue?
