Are a UK and a US penny the same size?

I will be making a greetings card that has a spinner element -  2 pennies are used as a sandwich to create the spinner and this spins along a cut out aperture.

I have printed out instructions to make the card but as the info is from an American web site, the measurements are for a US penny.

Can someone please tell me if the US penny is the same width as a UK penny?  I'm hoping there's not much difference so it will work with a UK penny anyway!

Many thanks.

Americans call a one cent coin a "penny" and checking a website, it's 3/4 inch (approx 19 mm) in diameter. A 1p coin is 20.32 mm in diameter so it's close enough.
Just read the question again and it's the thickness you're asking about isn't it.....DOH! I'll get back to you on that if I can
The cents are 1.55mm thick and 1p piece is 1.65mm thick.......
