Thanks everyone. Happy new year.
It's on next Wednesday which will be Wednesday 13th January, 2010 at 9:00pm on Channel 4.
Yes, compared to all the publicity it was very overrated, BUT..... it is still a brilliant film and well worth watching IMHO xx

Citizen Kane is a cinema masterpiece.

Orson Welles was only about 25 when he made it. He wrote, produced, directed and starred in it.

The scope of the film is just staggering

Welles did things in that film that nobody had done before. Many of the things he did are now "normal" in cinema but were unheard of in those days.

He put cameras in "pits" in the ground to get low camera angles, so had to put ceilings on his sets (nobody had ever bothered with ceilings on sets before).

It is easy to look back at any "art" and think it is nothing special (Beethovens music was considered wild and dangerous when it first came out) but Citizen Kane really was gound breaking, and it is still a pretty stunning film today.

Re over-rated: possibly, but nowhere near as much as "Avatar".

I'd say it's well worth a look.
VHG, to you Citizen Kane may be a cinematic masterpiece - to me it was dull and boring. Different people, different views. That's life. I didn't enjoy Slumdog at all either.
But VHG, Citizen Kane doesn't have any giant robots or teenage vampires, and what's with all that dialogue?
TOTALLY agree about CK. Never saw it, but knew the hype so when it came on tried to watch, and I DO mean tried. Loada piffle!

Slumdog may be over rated to, but it's a good film, once I stopped seeing him as Anwar from skins.
rosenante . . . if you cannot wait until Wednesday, 13th, watch it legally here online now FREE
