Hi, i'm looking for a gift for a 9 year old boy. I'm hoping to get something for him for under 20. Any great ideas. I don't really know any other 9 year olds so I'm really struggling on what to get him.

Any ideas would be greatly appreicated.

How about a good dictionary or an Atlas? Very useful for the school years ahead of him.

How about a Woolworths or WH Smith voucher? That way, you won't end up buying him something he's already got & he can buy something of his choice.

Our two nephews were more than happy to do just that.

a survival kit! like they have in the army (available from army surplus stores everywhere), a really powerful torch, a telescope, WALKIE-TALKIES (brilliant - best idea yet), anything than can fly, a boomerang, a swiss army knife with a carry case with boy initials on, anything from the "spy" range of toys (i recieved proximity alarms for my 24 birthday and still use them to make sure my darling girlfriend doesn't eat my icecream or drink my wine) they have loads of other alarms and gadgets in that range he would like especially if he has a sister lol)... wow i really want all these things!
My 9 year old son loves Bionicles and Yu-Gi-Oh cards and though I hate to say it new Harry Potter book
Go to the gadget shop. I would especially recommend mini games, like air hockey and air football that actually work!! I think that they're about 10-15 so you can always buy him something extra!
My 9 year old got some Mecanno for his birthday, and it kept him occupied for hours and hours - you can get a decent set for around 15. If you don't know him that well then smudge's suggestion of a Woolworths voucher sounds perfect.

Great suggestions already! I'll add my tuppence worth too. I've bought things like metal detectors (children's version) and an intruder alarm that kids can put together to stop people (such as parents and snooping brothers and sisters) from sneaking into their rooms. They've been greatly and excitedly received. More recently (because I now live in Sweden), I use some websites to get ideas and also to order things from to send to my nieces and nephews in Britain. The website I have been using most recently is an educational one but it really has a lot of great ideas. In the top left-hand corner of the website you can do a search by category. I usually just search by age range and price range and see what comes up. The website is called: "Bright Minds" and the web address is:
