40th Birthday Weekend

There are 8 of us women who go out to the local pub quiz once a week. One of us (not me) will be celebrating their 40th birthday at the beginning of March next year and she has suggested we all go away for a weekend (no hubbies, no kids- yeehaw). Now the problem is we don't know where to go. We want to be able to have some good food and some drinks and have a good laugh. We don't care whether it's in this country or abroad, but no where too expensive (we were thinking of one of the cheaper airlines if it's abroad, Easy Jet or whatever). We also want something to do during the day: shopping, sightseeing or something to amuse us all. Anyone got any good ideas?

If you can stretch to it, then Bareclona is just about ideal for what you want.

Barcelona, yes that's what I was thinking. It's got so much to do and all so close together and easy to get to. It's such a great city.

It has got to be Prague, the beauty of this city is staggering. It is still very very cheap compared to other Euro citys. Easyjet have their winter prices out now and March seems to be really cheap. Look on www.tripadvisor.com for peoples opinions of hotels in prague. Also I must add that I found Prague to be a very safe city with lots of Police about, and none of the seediness of other citys.
Definitely Barcelona. I've lived here for about 8 years now and absolutely love it.

Both Prague and Barcelona are fantastic, but having just had my own 40th in Prague with a bunch of mates, I'd say it has the edge, particularly if price is a factor.

Beautiful city, plenty to do day and night and pretty compact, so no need to hop on public transport to do the essential sights.  We had a fantastic time - cost per person at the beginning of July was about 90 for flights (BMI baby from Birmingham) and 70 for 3 nights accom.  We decided on self catering apartments, and were lucky enough to get 4 twin bedders in the same building - fairly basic but very clean and 5 mins from Wenceslas Square.  You can do it MUCH cheaper if you're prepared to go in hostels (around 6 per night), but hotels are considerably more.  Let me know if you'd like any more info.

Only downside would be that at the beginning of March it could still be pretty chilly...
