Why am I seeing all these adverts ? I'm using Firefox with Adblock plus so I'm usually ad free

It is the ads that keep this site free.
No ads means either no site or a pay site

click the little arrow next to the add block icon on the tool bar, select preferences, then click on the filter menu and select "add filter subscription" and select easylist USA from the list and click OK a few times.

no problem, my add block forgets it's subscriptions occasionally too, you may have to do the same again after any future updates to firefox.
