Can you give me the name of any popular fishes that they sell that have one main bone or few small bones preferably white and meaty as well as not breaking the bank.

Thanks.

Mackerel... you should be able to pull the central spine and the majority of 'rib' bones out pretty easily.
I always have rock and chips from the fish&chip shop - it's also known as rock salmon, dogfish and huss. It has solid flaky fish and one long bone - no little bones at all. I think it has a much better texture and taste then cod etc.
I was just going to mention Rock Salmon (dogfish!). Carrot beat me to it.

I have just pulled the backbone out of two mackerel only half an hour ago, but the spine bones were very thin and flimsy and I haven't managed to remove them all.

Thanks for the quick answers folks!
Hake would be a good one. Gut it, fill it with herbs, cover it in tinfoil, bake it, serve it. It will flake straight off the back bone.

Isn't hake really boney?
Monk fish is lovely and meaty and only has one large central bone .
Naw, just a backbone.

Ok flobadob will give it a go!
Naomi isn't monkfish really pricey?
Wish I hadn't read this thread. I have a hankering for rock and chips now. Not had it in about 30 years!
Fish Fingers generally have no bones at all!

Seriously, many flat fish only have a main back bone as long as you trim the outside bones off attatched to the fins.

Although Sole and its relations are expensive, Plaice and dabs are often quite cheap as is whiting.

Reminds me of a joke my Aberdonian Grandad used to tell, about the Aberdeen fishwife who in hearing the Aberdeen motto was Bon Accord, said "Bone A Cord? It takes me all ma time to bone a haddie"....well it made him laugh!
If you ask for the tail end of any large fillet of popular ound fish it will have no bones as at the the tail end there is only the backbone which should be filleted out. The smll bones are the rib cage at the head end So cod, hake, haddock etc will all be fairly bone free and meaty at the tail end if the fillet is taken from a large fish.
I am on Isle of Man and Monk fish is not too bad here and as it is very meaty I don't buy a big piece.
Flatfish is good...lemon sole, dover sole, plaice, flounder, etc.
Nice white meat, and the bones come away very easily.
