I understand form answers to this problem posted on answerbank that the answer maybe to download ccleaner. As a virtual novice would I be able to use this program (cost £15) or would I be better off paying for a professional service? Cost a pprox £50.

Before you spend out have you tried Mozilla (free download here)

You don't have to pay anything for CCleaner unless you choose to as a sort of thank you; it's freeware.

And whilst it is good it's not the be all and end all of cleaners that so many people seem to think.
as above says it's free.

It is a good cleaner in that it clears all your temporary files quickly and easily, it is not really a registry cleaner (it will do some very light registry cleaning) but that is a good thing as all registry cleaners are overrated and a rip off.

Thank you for all of your answers. Tamborine I tried to access Mozilla website but this directed me to site which only gave me the option to download Firefox. Chuck 'IT God & Lord of the Cyber Wave' Fickens, I accessed the website you gave me and followed instructions but at the end of the process only the first six sections were repaired for free and to clean up the 890 errors still outstanding apparently I still have to register and purchase the product. By the way I didn't receive any e:mails to tell me of your replies. That's not usual is it?
If you have downloaded CCleaner and you're being told to pay to for any part of it, then sadly, you haven't downloaded CCleaner. You have probably been browser hijacked and sent somewhere else. This information would correlate to why your computer seems slow. I would guess that your system is infected with malware.

Go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Download the program, install it and update it, then do a "Full Scan". It should pick up any nasties and help you get rid of them. Then you can move on to download the real Ccleaner. Beware though, browser hijacks (which re-direct you from a legitimate website to a fake one) may well do this for any site you enter, making downloading legitimate anti-malware software quite difficult. Whatever you do, DO NOT pay for anything or enter any payment details whatsoever. Both CCleaner and Malwarebytes are functionally free although you can opt to pay for Malwarebytes real-time protection, but this is optional and not required for your purposes.

this is c cleaner's home page try downloading from there when you are ready
Excellent answer from Mobius, and I fully agree, however.......

Do not download anything else on your computer

Use somebody else's computer to download malwarebytes (see mobious's link) and then get it burned onto CD or put it on a USB memory stick. so you know you are getting the correct thing (if your browser is being directed away from the Ccleaner download the it will certainly be directed elsewhere for malwarebytes)

(you only get mails now if you click subscribe to question up there ^ just above the first reply)

Thank you so much for your advice Mobius1. I have now downloaded and run malwarebytes.org and my computer is now running at a much quicker rate. I am really chuffed. I would say you were right about being careful because the first time I tried it I was immediately directed to a fake site which I would have automatically used because I was not aware! However, I tried again and got the correct site. Thanks again all of you for your advice.
