he took blood tests etc. and said i was diabetic,hope i'll be able to cope with this

depends what kind of diabetes you have

Course you will kate. It may be the type of diabetes which can be controlled by diet only, or tablets - it doesn't necessarily mean injections of insulin - wait and see the results before you start to worry about anything. x

its type 2,got given tablets to start at dinner time tonight then increased to 2 a day on monday

You will have sessions with the diabetic nurse who will take you through everything, diet, exercise, your eyes and medication.

Be thankful its not insulin controlled diabetes! My stepson has very unstable type 1 and has lots of troubles with it :-(

It's not the end of the world & you'll find quite a lot of info on it & advise from your GP/nurse.
I've been tablet controlled for 7 years now & cope well
