Jennifer Day lost her appeal in the High Court against her two year prison sentence for perverting the course of justice by making a false rape allegation against a man with whom she had a row, which ended in his trial and he was cleared. See http://www.telegraph....alse-rape-claims.html

Louisa Longstaffe of Women Against Rape described the sentence as "outrageous."

Is it, considering what he would have got if convicted?

she should have got more than the 2 years anyhow !
I agree (without viewing your link). this is the sort of allegation that ruins lives. I can't imagine how terrible it would have been for him.
as if it isn't difficult enough to get a rape conviction already, women like this make it even more sol. I'm not sure why Ms Longstaffe takes the view she does, if she represents Women against Rape. It's people like the defendant who make her job harder.
Jeffrey Archer got 4 years for perverting the course of justice. His false testimony only led to financial loss (rather than potential loss of liberty), so a 2 year sentence in this case seems to be extremely light.

Rape cases are notoriously difficult to prosecute, the conviction rate is very low.
Many defendants are tried for rape and acquitted, so much so, that the government is seeking to amend the law to make it easier to convict.
Maybe I'm old fashioned but after being tried and found not guilty, then maybe your innocent, if there was talk of lessening the burden of proof for murder or theft, then the self same people would cry foul.
I abhor the crime of rape, this woman is to be denounced and derided she has helped nobody.
