my car was serviced today, but now making a funny sound is that normal- mechanic said it should settle down as the spark plugs etc have been changed and oil/air filters have been changed, and the car needs to get used to it. is he right? any budding mechanics out there that have an answer

Sounds like a load of rubbish to me.

None of the things you mention have any effect on the noise of the engine - unless there is too little oil in!
Question Author
now im worried
Describe the noise and when you hear it.

Do you hear it all the time?

Is it just when the car is moving?

Does it change volume or pitch as the revs rise?

Is it linked to braking?
Phone the garage that serviced your car & explain to them what you have stated on here, as mentioned get someone to check the oil ASAP.
suzie, do you know how to check the oil?
''suzie, do you know how to check the oil?''

Or the '71O' depending on which way the filler cap has been put on ;-p

the car sounds juddery, it sounds and behaves like its about to stall on me, i drove to work today and it kept juddering, the garage said it hasnt been serviced for nearly 4 years and just needs to get used to the new oil, im not convinced, im gonna wait aday or two and if its still like that im going back to them to sort it, im ballistic at the moment, god help the mechanic that did my car when i c him
Question Author
i know how to see how much oil i have it seems full as it should be
What they have told you about the oil is a load of bollox.
It could be a coincidence that something has failed just after the service.

However the rubbish that they are fobbing you off with doesn't give me much confidence.
go to another mechanic (reputable) have them fix it and sue first mechanic for costs.
Hi Suzie, if you know about how to check the oil, ( I'm not been Sexist here) do you know how to check the plug leads? if so check the connections I think you will find one of the leads has not been pushed all the way home. there is either a DUFF PLUG amongst the new or what I have stated.
