For the fourth week in the row, the launch of the challenge of “Queen Christiana the Cheerful” went smoothly, as we learned how she found herself teaching English in a School on the Isle of Man. (Is that sexist?) As expected, she chose as her theme “The World of Teacher Training” and selected the following links:

Class STRUGGLE
Talk TURKEY
Write PROTECT
APTITUDE Test

Not an obvious set of links, but she was after all an English teacher and has retained her love of language!

I think anyone claiming even one hit here was difficult enough, so I wasn’t expecting the Sacred Abacus to go into overdrive! So it turned out, as it took Entrant #10 (jan1956) to make the first hit with TALK TURKEY for TWO POINTS. This is a timely reminder from Jan that quality turkeys will be in short supply this Christmas, so get down to Sainsbury’s and place your order!

Next came Strix at 09.07 passing his APTITUDE TEST for another TWO POINTS. Some 12 minutes later came wickedtongue (Entrant #18) with not only the new link in CLASS STRUGGLE, but also a repeat link in “Talk Turkey” to score THREE POINTS to make him (not for the first time by any means) HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK!
*** Let trumpets sound and cannons roar ***
*** The crowds go wild and shout “Encore” ***

In all of this, only Joanna (Mrs Ont-ice) flew in from Canada to register her “Class Struggle” for a well-earned point. As the game began to come to a close, there was still one more link to find. Surely twix123 could not bring the curtain down in grand style for a third week? However it was not to be, as he was eclipsed by the penultimate player, IT specialist, gen2, who claimed WRITE PROTECT for the last TWO POINTS. In total, only 10 Points had been awarded during the entire game.

The League Table after this fourth week is:

EIGHT POINTS: wickedtongue
SIX POINTS: Dustybun & slaney
FOUR POINTS: beejay, rogerr, Strix & twix123
THREE POINTS: cliffyg, Elspeth, Jim, Joanna & joto
TWO POINTS: Aquagility, ChrisHewat, SHAZZA, fordward, gen2, Grenmus, jan1956, Jools, lysander, miss meg, pauline & roslyn
Five others are on ONE POINT!

As far as ex-champions go, this League Table is still ‘top heavy’. This is a five-week month, so there is only one more week to impress the scorer, claim the October Crown and set the November links. Will you rocket up the League Table or end up a damp squib?

Only time will tell!
For now, this is crofter signing off for another week.
See you next week: Same time ~ Same place

Until then: HAPPY LINKING!

:o)
Blimey...no wonder I got none!!
Queen Christiana...I know nothing about you! I am certainly not on your wavelength.
Thanks for the fun trying though...and thanks again to Crofter.
Thanks to both Queen Christiana and Crofter.

I certainly didn't expect to pick up any bonus points with such a late entry.

The other pairings weren't even on my short-list so I had no chance of scoring more. Here's hoping to do better next weekend.
Cheers all,
gen2
Oh gg!
I forgot text enhancements were no longer allowed.
Thanks Your Cheerfulness Queen Christiana and Crofter.....Write Protect was the only correct link on my shortlist but I changed it when I saw gen2's entry immediately before mine!!
THanks Christiana. I must be somewhat on your wavelength as this is the first month I have managed a score of THREE. Wow!
And thanks Crofter. I have your name on my Christmas list for a new abacus methinks that one must be rather tired by now.
To the top scorers - How do you do it?
Not only no points but, looking at the words, I have to say I would never have matched any of them in a month of Sundays! C'est la vie! Thank you Your Cheerfulness and Lord Crofter of the Abacus and everyone else for making all this such fun each week. :0)
Thanks for the 2 points and the plug to get your Turkeys early from Sainsburys
first points in ages
