I have just watched the progs on BBC4 on Krautrock and Kraftwerk. I believe Kraftwerk to be the most innovative and influential band from the 1950s onward.
What does anyone else think?

they had a top 20 hit in about 1974. It wasn't that popular in the record shop i worked in, people were buying Abba and those two singing miners

Hi DotH

You are probably quite correct, I did not mention popular
I think The Beatles probabky were the most innovative and influencial, Kraftwerk wouldn't have owned a keyboard if Billy Preston hadn't played on the Bealtes tunes
