There were a few
Arthur Evans was one and before him Heinrich Schliemann.

Could be Frank Calvert - see wikipedia here. Schliemann usually gets the glory (because he claimed it) but being German he might not count as a Victorian.

jno - this reminds me of  when Blackadder is accusing Captain Darling of being a German spy.

Darling: I'm as British as Queen Victoria.
Edmund: So your father's German, you're half German, and you married a German?

I don't think Victorian and German are mutually exclusive!

lol, Xollob. I'm not sure what adjective Germans use to refer to their own later 19th century history, though.
