I have an intermittent fault on my alarm. Goes off for no apparent reason at irregular intervals. Won't do it to order so garage can't fix it. Anybody know if it is possible to disconnect the sounder?

hi has your car sufferd from a water leak passats are common for this they leake water in from the pollen filter in to the passenger footwell. this is were the convience computer is stored and it controls your alarm you can fix this by lifting up the passenger side carpet up and checking for corroded wires to stop the leake you have to take the pollen filtre out and replace the seal hope this helps. If not the siren is kept next to your battery under the skutle pannel all you have to do is disconnect the 4 or 3 pin connector of the siren the lights will still flash the only way they can be turned of is by taking it to a vw dealer they can turn the lights of using the computer.

Hi wliiamsvw - Thanks very much for that answer. No sign of any damp or corroded wires, so have found the sounder. When I disconnected it, the central locking activated, or at least it all went clunk! So does it need to be connected for the central locking/immobiliser to work?
