can anyone suggest a tour operater we are looking to book a weekend break to anywhere in spain for next april/may time looking for something reasonably cheap tia

lots of city break operators, eg Tmonson, Cresta, should get you to Barcelona or Madrid.

Why not do it yourself, its so easy and cheaper, book direct with the like's of Ryanair, Easyjet or BmiBaby etc then once you have your flghts go on a hotel site and choose to your budget, a good site that looks at them all is www.travelsupermarket.com ( Madrid is my favourite city in Spain )
