Some years ago on my old ''Tiny'' computer (win 98se) I had a program called Adobe Photo deluxe 1.1 It was only basic stuff but was good for what I wanted, I came across the disc yesterday and put it on to my laptop (win XP) it installed ok but when I clicked on the icon to start it a message appeared saying not enough RAM to start this program, Bearing in mind there is very little on my laptop already why would this happen & how can I solve the problem ?? ( In laymans terms please as I only know computer basics)

Back in the day when computers had very little RAM, programs often had checkers to see how much was available before running, but the checkers often were only capable of measuring up to a certain amount.

The chances are that your machine has so much MORE ram than the developers were expecting, that it's simply failing to measure it properly.

In other words, the program thinks you don't have enough memory, when in fact you have more than it can even conceive of!

However, you could try this:
Right-click the program icon, and choose Properties
Click on the Compatibility tab
Check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows 98/ME

Thanks for your answer rojash I will give it a try and see what happens. I would have given your answer a star rating but that facility seems to have disappeared into infinity
