Friend of mine went into nursing as a second career. She did an Access to Nursing course at a local college, which was linked to the nurse training department of the university. Having passed that course, she was offered a place on the nurse qualification course, which was at degree level. This basically meant that she came out after four years (access + degree) as a qualified nurse.

She received a bursary for the duration of her degree level training.
