A friend of mine was recently in touch with the cccs (the government advisory line for people in debt). She told me that they have the government guides on what a family are entitled to declare to their creditors that they live on each month i.e. you are allowed 400 odd pound for food for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. They also said things like haircuts/ pets/dentist etc. They included absolutely everything. Another friend now wants to know them but am stuck where to look. Does anyone know the figures or a website I can get these from - have tried cccs website but no luck. many thanks in advance

is the Official Government Website on Bankruptcy.
I hope that the information you require may be in there somewhere?
CCCS is not a Government service - it is a registered charity. So whilst it may have Government patronage, the Government doesn't have figures they pluck out of the air that one is 'allowed' to offset against income when trying to assess how much you can pay your creditors.
The purpose of the CCCS service is to provide counselling services to people in debt so the organisation and the individual can work out a plan of what might be, or might not be possible.
Why not suggest to your friend that he/she phones for a session.
PS, when one is seriously in debt, I've always regarded pets as a source of sustainance, not an expense. That's what happens in most parts of the world.
Yes there are guidelines set as to what is considered a reasonable budget for everyones circumstances that creditors have to take into consideration, i.e if it went to court the court would usually use the figures set by the debt counselling services. Contact a couple of them, they can provide the figures.
