I have finally been given the go ahead. Has any ABer had the surgery? I have been given the choice of going to Chelsea & Westminster or Imperial College. I checked out the sites and have chosen Imperial. I expect some abuse from people as this is self inflicted and as some say a waste of NHS money. Why don't I just eat less. Well anyone who has a weight problem knows it's not so simple. I would really like to hear from people that have had the surgery, or are thinking of it and whether they have had a good or bad experience.

It is no better or worse ethically than an alcoholic being given a liver transplant,or a smoker getting new lungs!
This will be a life changing operation for you,you have to remember though that you still need to watch what you eat and lead a healthier lifestyle. The operation isn't a miracle cure.
Good luck with it all.

Thanks, I have had lots of counselling with dietitians and psychotherapists so have been told all about the life style change.I understand this is no miracle cure, but I feel it will help me. I have had this problem for last 25 years after having my children.

The reason I said that was because of what some people have said to me. I know some people on this site don't always say nice things. I thought it better to say them first.
.I understand this is no miracle cure..

I have to disagree with you , have you not seen This Mornings Fern Britton recently ? Now she 's gone from large to slimmer by the day and now she 's out of the daily public eye the next time we see her no one will recognise her ! lol !
never feel unsure miss skippy always get to the point where you feel "" i definitely want to do this "" and then all the unknown pixels that only exist on your computer screen wont matter !
There will always be people who think operations such as you are having should not be funded by the NHS,you will have to be strong to cope with the criticism that you will invariably face.
I am a believer that gastric band surgery can be a life saver in many cases,in the long run it will mean you are less likely to suffer heart failure, stroke, diabetes etc if you lose weight. You will therefore be less of a drain on NHS funds.
Ignore the critics and stay strong!
Thank god you didnt put this on the night shift. Good luck miss skippy, I hope the op goes well xx
Well I'm from the "night shift", and I say good luck to you miss skippy. : )
As Daffy says, you'll need to eat good wholesome food after the op, but you won't be eating anywhere near as much as you used to, because your "new" stomach won't allow it.
I DO know someone who's had it done, and it'll take several months for the weight to come off, but it'll all be worth it in the end.
Losing weight isn't the easiest of things for some people, and I think you've made a decision that'll be life changing. All the best.
