I just bought this machine from a credited shop but they had no instruction manual.

Can some kind soul out there tell me how to use the timer for recording when I am not home!

If there is such a person please spell it out step by step. This sort of thing is not my forte.

I would go back to the shop and say that you must have the manual to be able to use it. If they have a good reason that they cannot get one they should be able to explain how to use the product they have sold you. Otherwise contact Nokia.
