Antony Gormley, creator of the Angel Of The North among much else, is the latest creative tenant. And it is his idea to place ordinary living people on a pedestal in a square otherwise devoted to dead national heroes.

Since this square is devoted to dead national heroes, perhaps instead of these idiotic odd balls occupying Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth, perhaps real life heroes should be the ones to temporary occupy it, and show to the world our best.

dead national heroes?

George IV ?

What for heroic pie eating?
Seriously though these are meant to be military figures so if you wan't to clean it up you should remove George and fill 2 new plinths.

You could put Wellington on one but that would make him appear subserviant to Nelson which wouldn't seem right.
Nick Griffin
Sir Henry Havelock? William IV? (Dead national heroes?)

What heroic things did either of these do?

"and show to the world our best" Like who?
I know - Jaques Delors!
Graham Norton.

At least it would keep him off the telly for an hour.
the only problem with putting live natinal heroes on the plinths is at some point they are going to be dead
