My mum and auntie used to go on holidays when they were children to a kind of boarding house where you bought all your own food and the landlady cooked it for you (it was typical in the 60s apparently). Does anybody know what the name of this 'service' was?. They think it was something board, but another relative thinks it it is something apartments. Thanks.
the difference is that lodging houses came under a different set of rules at the local council, if they didn't provide food i think this meant they were paying only a domestic rates not business rates, but i could be wrong.
This sort of holiday was run in Ireland dot.The poor people from the city would go to the country, work on the farms, sleep in the barns and make their own meals.Thats how they paid for their holiday.
