it does appear to be the answer although im not sure of the word play
Glad it fits in, but I have no idea of why either....

Crickets are insects, and organophosphates are insecticides.
If you had put the correct clue, rrc, it would have helped - the clue was 'Go on oath, perhaps, bent on such as cricket's nemesis (15)'.
