My cat keeps peeing on the same bit of carpet. Any ideas how I can stop him doing this gratefully received as it's getting very fragrant.

My dog sometimes did the same - I think it might be a territory thing doing it in the same spot. Either that or if it was good enough once etc....

Removing the scent might help - try shampoo or disinfectant.worked for me.
An old style remedy was pepper, or else try the pet shop for some sort of deterrent to it (sorry can't remember name).
We have a similar problem with one of our cats, I was told by the vet, to clean the area with biological washing powder and then wipe over with surgical spirit, which will completely remove the smell. Then you could try, sticking bits of dried food to a piece of card and leaving it in that spot for a while - sounds crazy I know but most cays won't pee etc where there is food. Or try spaying Feliway spray on the area, after cleaning it. Feliway is a pheromone spray, which has a calming affect on cats.
How about, after cleaning the area as suggested by above, put a litter tray over patch. Hopefully the cat will pee in that instead of on the carpet.
do you have a stanley knife? if u do cut out the bit of carpet and wash it. then put it in a place it cant reach. problem solved
Beatyswalls, your advice is invaluable lols, keep up the good work.
citronella oil spray it this will deter the cat from peeing in the same spot or you can buy one of those magic carpets with the rubber backing they can be machine washed
rent a rug doctor carpet shampooer they are fantastic you can hire them in branches of morrisons and b and q
I take it it is a tom, if it is then it is scent marking its territory which is a natural thing for cats and dogs to do.
I do know that if they are speyed that should help... seek advice from a vet though.

Thanks for the help - I threw myself on the mercy of my local pet shop. They recommended S.O.X to clean the carpet & Repel-All to stop the cat doing it again. Must say that rhe Repel-All stinks as bad as the cat pee when you first use it but it seems to have done the trick
hold its face in it
phil for how long though. suffocation is my worry here. maybe just hold their face in the district of it so they can smell it?
