My trusty Epson printer died a few days ago and I decided to replace it with an HP f2280 all-in-one scanner/printer. Although the printer works fine, the software disc that came with it seems to have a compatibility problem with my computer ( I am running Windows XP).
The problem is that every time I re-boot, the software keeps trying to re-install itself with the result that I have to wait about half an hour before my computer is ready to use!
Has anyone else encountered this problem, and what can I do about it? The HP website is worse than useless in providing help for this problem!

did you follow the installation instructions exactly?
disk first ... printer not connected - printer last ... or when told to connect

Exactly to the letter. The problem started when the installation was nearly complete, and the printer was connected for the first time, Windows own hardwear recognition then detected the new hardwear and asked me to insert the installation disc. of course, the disc was already in and had nearly finished it's own installation procedure. I tried to ignore it but it went on to tell me that the new hardware had not installed properly. I did at one stage get an error message telling me that there was a compatibility problem between one of the installation program components and windows messenger 8 (don't really know what that has to do with anything!). I've tried uninstalling and re installing in different ways but still end up with the same problem. I have installed new hardware many times in the past and this is the first time I've been unable to hack it!!!!
It could be that the lenses in the CD drive are dirty and need cleaning so that it can read the CD disc properly???
CD/DVD lens cleaners are available from the Pound Shop.
Just a thought!!!!
Ha, I've just bought exactly the same one!
Go into start | run | and type in msconfig
Cick on the startup tab and you should see two files,
HPWuSchd2 and hpqSRMon. Uncheck these, select apply, close, and reboot the system. These files are not required at startup. If you have installed the printer correctly, you should have a desktop icon whereby you can access all the functions required
