the last time i was on i spoke about skylarks and i feel that i was taken to task for walking my dog in a field where birds are nesting i would like to point out i am a lover of all animals and i do not let my dog run wild in the field and i have a good name from the farmer for being careful not to hurt any animals back to the skylarks i found both nests were empty no sign of the birds and the eggs were cold i was told by the farmer the main culprit was was the crows so seven eggs are now useless and no dog involved a bit long winded but thank you for reading this

Don't worry too much about people reprimanding you for something. Most of the people in this part of AB are like yourself in that they love animals and are passionate about their welfare.

I live in a city centre and never venture into the countryside - but as a teenager I used to walk my dog up a country road. I was, and still am, not fully aware of the rules of the country with a dog. My dog was terrified of cows - which was weired because his daddy was a bull-mastiff.

Have a nice weekend.

we sometimes go out the hengistbury head in dorset. Ther is a huge field behind the bech where dogs are allowed to run freely and I have seen more skylarks there than have ever seen anywhere else and i live in the New Forest. I am not saying all dog owners are saints but i do think that we are an easy target!
Dont worry about it, you are obviously a responsible dog owner. The birds deliberately hide their nests so unless the dog was constantly marauding around or standing guard at the nest it is unlikey to make them abandon the nest. Birds are programmed to fly off to distract anyone getting close, then returning to the nest when job is done.

thank you all for your comments however today the news is bad both of the nests are empty dont know what has happened to the adult birds some loose feathers around one of the nests the eggs are cold so it looks like the adults have been killedon speaking to the farmer that the crows might have killed them or maybe a fox it makes me so sad but such is life i shall continue to walk the dog and hope i find some other nests thank you all for your comments
