Has anyone any suggestions how to get more fluids into a 16 mth old? The piglet wont drink from a cup and refuses water in her bottle. Its been so hot lately that I am concerned she is not getting enough fluid, her nappy in the mornings is wet (damp) but not the usual sodden mass! She will drink her milk in the afternoons and I have watered it down by half but not sure what else to do.

Any suggesstions?

Cheers

ice lollies? Make some homemade ones perhaps
or maybe try her with the baby fruit juices diluted down.

some just dont drink a lot of fluids but as long as her nappies are still damp then id try those options for now

hope youre both doing well x
Does she eat well?

Hi all, I didn't think of lollies, will give that a go. Yes ummm, she is eating fine (mostly) except she is at that age were she will push food away then eat it later, just being a toddler I guess.

Hi Red, yes we are both great if a little hot and bothered, is all good with you and yours?
My 16 month old daughter has recently taking a liking to bottled water with flavour in it by the brand of Perfectly Clear she loves the apple flavoured one and calls it her juice.
Failing that you could also give her food with water added in it to introduce fluids to her.

How does she drink it cockney si? this is my problem, I give her juice but as she wont use a cup or drink anything except milk out of her bottle I am at a loss. She will drink from a tumbler if I hold it but to be honest she just sees it as a chance to blow bubbles into it or drink it to spit it out!
we are all well, thanks. Baby CRX is getting to be a little madam and gets frustrated at not being able to communicate as much as she'd like lol

what sort of cups are you trying to use. There are so many on the market and it can be hit and miss until you find one that works. Some can be very hard to get liquid from.

ha ha, a little madam eh? I know exactly what you mean!

I have four different cups and none of them seem to make any difference. The one I thought would work was a tommy tippee one which has an attachment you can put in to alter the flow, but she isnt having any of it. I have left loads of fruit out, which she likes, so hopefully she can get some fluid from that and I shall set about making baby ice lollies tonight (bet the weather breaks tomorrow!).
remember in this heat we sweat a lot of fluids out, have you tried getting an eye catching cup with a built in straw with a fav character on it?
Hi warpig

I used a colourful straw sippy cup with my son when he did not want to drink much fluid. That worked because it was a novelty.
i cant find what its called but i bought a new cup the other day. Its a standard cup with a lid. the lid hasnt got a spout, just a rubber ring which means that baby can drink from any point around the edge like a normal cup

Well I have tried straws and she wont use them, I tried getting a little carton of juice and squeezing it so the juice squirted into her mouth through the straw but she just spat it out again. Will have a wander around town tomorrow and see what is available, I should have it sorted just in time for the weather to break!!!!!
Hi warpig

Have you tried a doidy cup? Baby Picky wasn't so keen on drinking until he could properly on his own, and I tried one of these and he did really well with it. Not too expensive either, so might be worth a try?

Good luck!
