Just got this Dell laptop.

How do I check if it has a lan internet card in the machine and how do I connect it to the router/modem in my house?

HELP, many thanks.

well ideally you should have done this before you bought it ;)

but, on the back or side somewhere will be a port for an RJ-45 cable.. it'll probably say ethernet or 10/100 or something. or just have a look at the manual...

to connect, get an RJ-45 cable and plug in to the router.

What model is it?

On the back of the machine they're might be a smaller modem connector and a slightly larger LAN connector.  The modem connector (female) is the same size as the telephone wire that plugs INTO the phone.  Whereas the LAN connector (female) is about the size as a telephone cable that fits into the wall socket.  It may have a light illuminating near it too.

Right-click 'My Computer' and the select properties from the drop-down list.In the System Properties box that appears, select the Hardware Tab and then Device Manager. Here you will find listed all of your PCs hardware. Any Lan cards fitted will be listed under Network Adapters
