my mums dog keeps humping..

everytime my mum gets up to say goodbye to any visiters she may have, our FEMALE dog starts humping her leg. at first i thought it was funny, but its a bit embarrassing when trying to say goodbye.
thing is our dog never does it to me!
does anybody know why she might do this? and how it could be stoppped?

OK, sounds hilarious to us but your dog is displaying dominance - female dogs will often mount other females in an attempt to establish hierarchy. It's not a sexual behaviour as we often think it is. Keep an eye on her, the moment she starts to do this behaviour simply tell her 'NO' and remove her from the room and shut her somewhere else for a while, let her back in after say 10 minutes, but repeat this if she begins to mount again, it takes perserverance and you may have to do this lots of times, but she should get the message that is it not acceptable to do, dogs hate being 'desocialised' from their pack, by being shut out she will know its wrong.
